What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the kura is a Te Aho Matua Education Review Report (Te Pūrongo Arotake Mātauranga Te Aho Matua) from January 2020, written with Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa.
ERO noted the whānau’s strong bond with Ngāti Kahungunu and their work to revive te reo o Kahungunu. It found that the kura’s Raukura, its graduates, show what success looks like, that its te reo Māori education changes lives, that whānau take an active part in guiding learning, that leaders are driven and forward-looking, that kaiako focus on quality teaching, and that the emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual wellbeing of tamariki comes first.
The board and principal confirmed to ERO that they had taken reasonable steps to meet their legal obligations. ERO said its next review of the kura would be a Te Mānakotanga enrichment evaluation.

Enrolling
The kura has no home zone, but it sets its own entry criteria. Its website says new entrants must have attended a kōhanga reo or puna reo at ages three and four, and have at least one adult at home who speaks te reo Māori.
Tamariki moving from another Te Aho Matua kura kaupapa Māori are offered an interview with the principal, and other enquiries are looked at case by case before a place is offered.
