What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from January 2024. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well literacy teaching in reading and writing lifts results fairly for all students, especially Māori students and those with diverse needs.

ERO pointed to deliberate work on building teachers’ literacy skills, an inclusive climate with well-targeted support for students with diverse needs, and respectful relationships that support engagement and wellbeing.

Next, the school planned to make teaching expectations consistent and based on research and evidence, keep improving how it identifies the progress of targeted students, and strengthen moderation of literacy assessment.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.

The school’s enrolment page holds the application forms and the zone description and map, and the parent handbook invites prospective families to meet the principal and tour the school. Once a new entrant is enrolled, the school arranges weekly transition visits with a new entrant teacher.
