The Fisherman’s Shop is owned and run by Matt Douglas, his wife and their family, who also operate Douglas Fishing Ltd. Matt has more than thirty years of fishing experience in Kahungunu waters, and the team catch and fillet locally, so what reaches the counter has come off the family boats rather than through a wholesaler. There are two shops in Napier, one on Taradale Road in Onekawa and one on Hastings Street in the city. The Taradale Road site also runs a fresh fish market, with an iced cabinet of whole fish and fillets alongside the chippery. What is in the cabinet on any given day depends on the weather and the catch.
