Explore the Local Markets!
Napier’s market scene reflects the wider Hawke’s Bay region’s strong food and produce heritage — from the long-running Napier Urban Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings through to the surrounding Hawke’s Bay regional food and craft markets. The combination of fertile Heretaunga Plains produce, local wineries, and a strong artisan food culture makes the regional market scene distinctive — and a substantial weekend draw for both locals and visitors.
This page is a consolidated guide to Napier and Hawke’s Bay markets — what’s on, when, and where. Most markets run year-round, with summer (December–March) adding occasional pop-ups and the major Art Deco Festival market events.
The Napier Urban Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday morning at Clive Square, Napier — featuring fresh local produce, artisan food vendors, baked goods, coffee, plus crafts and the substantial Hawke’s Bay food community. The market is one of Napier’s longest-running weekly markets and is part of the wider New Zealand farmers’ market network. Arrive early (open from around 8:30 AM) for the best produce selection; the market typically packs up by early afternoon. Free entry; central, easy parking on Clive Square’s surrounding streets.
The Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Market at the Hastings Showgrounds runs every Sunday morning — one of New Zealand’s largest farmers’ markets, with extensive Hawke’s Bay produce, wine, and food vendors. Worth the short drive from Napier (about 20 minutes). The market has a strong focus on direct producer-to-consumer sales, with vendors from across the region. Free entry; ample on-site parking.
Beyond Napier and Hastings, the wider Hawke’s Bay region hosts several substantial markets within easy day-trip range:
Hawke’s Bay markets are strong on fresh produce (apples, pip fruit, stonefruit, grapes, vegetables, honey), artisan baked goods, cheese, charcuterie and small-batch preserves, plus the substantial Hawke’s Bay wine and beverage scene (wine, cider, beer, kombucha). Crafts and skincare are also represented but the strength of the region is its food culture.
The market scene is at its busiest from December through April, when summer produce is in full swing and visitor numbers peak. Cash and contactless card both work at most stalls; bring reusable bags.
